Farewell

We've had a few hard days in our family lately.  My Aunt Joyce (mom's sister) passed away on April 1, 2010 and my dad's brother, Karl, passed away on April 8, 2010.  Strange, this thing called death.  What a time for us to reflect on our lives and the things that we have done and people that we have touched.  I have many memories of these people in my life and it's hard to think of them on the other side of the veil.  I think that i am just going to think of them as absent from our family reunions!

I'm grateful to have known these wonderful relatives of mine. They both were great examples to me of wonderful latter day Saints. My mom said that Joyce kept hearing music, "heavenly music". When she was asked what kind of music, she said "Redeemer of Israel" and a song that she used to play for my grandpa to sing to..."these irish eyes are smiling" or something like that (i can't remember)...some Irish song. i wonder if my grandpa had come to get his daughter and started singing to her to get her ready for the journey home. It's comforting to know that the veil is thin and this life is a short stop on our eternal progression. If only i could keep that perspective always! i really need to pray more....

It's strange that amidst all the sadness, is the joy of being with your relatives and seeing folks that you haven't seen for a while.  I really wanted to go down with my parents for my Aunt Joyce's funeral but i couldn't take that many days off of work (just started a new job)  Karl's funeral was in Boise so i could swing it...4 of my sisters came over for Karl's funeral and we had a really nice time and i loved visiting with them!  There is nothing more healing than the comradery and laughter of sisters!  I think that we can talk non-stop for 12 hours and never tire...okay now that we're older we might need a nap, but we keep going.  (I must add that i am the only natural blonde left...okay, it's a dirty blonde but everyone else is brown.)  I'm glad that our family is forever...i need my sisters therapy that long!
