It's been an exciting month of December in our house! Our first Christmas in our new house was fun. We rearranged the furniture, put up the Christmas tree and the boys decorated it with all the homemade and sentimental ornaments. I think that we counted 15 candy canes on it when we took it down.
The weekend of Thanksgiving is always the weekend that we put up the tree and the lights. I waited until tradition dictated and we had a huge snowstorm that weekend. I wasn't braving the snow to put up lights...I thought it would be nice in a few days. I think that it was three weeks later that I was able to get out in the yard, borrow a ladder from the neighbor and put up the lights. Of course, I had a few mishaps....two of the three strings of icicle lights had sections that didn't light up. What's with that??? and of course, right in the middle. So I threw those babies away and bought new ones. (got them 50% off so I was proud). i'm back on the ladder and go to plug our lights in our $200 Christmas light upgrade outlet under the eves and the cover of the outlet comes off. the screw they used wasn't long enough and the whole thing came off when I tried to plug it in. So I spent the next 20 minutes pilfering through our huge collection of "extra" screws. Long story, a little shorter, the lights were up and were beautiful! Santa was in the yard and Christmas music playing 24/7. We had a great December.
The boys made their Christmas lists and we tried again to teach the spirit of Christmas. not sure how well we did but we had fun. we made kettle korn one night and the boys helped me fill bags of it. We then stamped little cards and walked around the neighborhood delivering treats. it was nice to reconnect with a lot of the neighbors we met at the Labor Day picnic.
As we put the cookies out for Santa, than wrote a note to Santa, asking him to hide presents like he had done a few years ago. So Santa hid 6 presents for them. The boys were excited. Ethan got from Santa a Beast Hunter Optimus Prime and Quinten got a blue bike. Everyone was so generous with us and the boys...we are grateful for their kindness.
It was hard this year as we were trying to balance the checkbook and wanting to buy or make presents for our growing extended family. I wish we had more this year and maybe next year we will plan a little better...sorry!
